Mung dal & Oats Khichidi

This is a welcome change from the normal Rice and Dal Khichidi.

Oats a super food packed with fibre and nutrients.

Also low in calories.Enjoy the goodness ofOats with protein rich Mung dal.

Light and tasty. Loved it with some lemon juice peeled over hot piping Khichidi.


Oats-1/2 cup

Mung dal-1/2 cup

Green chillies-2 finely chopped

Cumin seeds-1/2 spn

Saunf-1/2 son coarsely ground

Onion-1 finely chopped

Methi seeds-5 roasted and crushed.

Coriander seeds-1/2 spn coarsely ground

Oil/ Ghee-2 table spoons

Coriander leaves finely chopped-1/2 handful.

Ghee-2 table spn lemon juice-1/2 son

Turmeric powder-1/2 spn

Red chilli powder-1/4 spn

Salt to taste.

Hot Water-1 cup.


Roast the oats and keep aside.

Wash mung dal and cook it in a cup of water for 3 whistles.

In a kadai heat the oil/ghee and add the onions and when it turns pink, add the turmeric pdr, saunf pdr(fennel seeds),coriander seeds pdr and the roasted oats.

Add salt and mung dal and mix well.

Add hot water and allow it to simmer for about 10 mins on closed lid.

Now give a tadka of crushed methi seeds,green chillies, cumin seeds and chilli powder.

Add lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.

Enjoy the Khichidi with little ghee.
