Black Rice Khichidi

Black rice,also called the forbidden rice is a staple food of Mizoram which is now getting popular all over as a Super food.

Rich in antioxidants and full of protein,nutrients and minerals.Loved the nutty flavour.


Black Rice 1/2 cup

Green whole Mung beans-1/2 cup.

Fresh corn-2 table spoons

Olive oil-2 table spoons

Cumin seeds-1 spn

Green chillies-2 finely chopped

Garlic-3-4 cloves finely chopped

Lemon juice-1/2 spoon

Onions-2 finely chopped

Coriander leaves-1:2 handful finely chopped.

Salt as per taste.

Soak the black rice and moong beans separately for around 30 mins.

After about 30 mins pressure cook them separately with 2 whistles for mung beans and corn and about 5-8 whistles for the black rice.

Now add a little water to the black rice and mix well and strain it.Add a few drops of lemon and oil and keep aside.

Take a pain and heat oil. Add in the cumin, green chillies and garlic. When it starts getting translucent add the mung beans, corn and salt and mix well. Add the black rice and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 mins.

Garnish with coriander leaves and have it with ghee
